Kinex offers a full line of DVT prophylaxis and compression devices. These devices help reduce the likelihood of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT)—a potentially deadly complication— following surgery. Compression devices use mechanical systems to automatically deliver DVT prophylaxis therapy. This can reduce post-trauma edema and minimize the risk of DVT in high-risk patients. Kinex DVT products are prescribed following surgical procedures such as Total Knee Replacement (TKR), or Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). Planning a TKR procedure soon? Kinex Medical Company ThermoComp Machine

ThermoComp™

Kinex ThermoComp™ provides cold, contrast and compression therapies. It is designed to assist with post-operative rehabilitation in the home. The ThermoComp reduces swelling, reduces pain, and improves blood flow to the surgical site.

VenaFlow

VenaFlow

The VenaFlow® system is a compression device designed to prevent post-operative DVT in a hospital setting. It uses two two proven technologies (rapid inflation and graduation sequential compression), as well as asymmetric compression to prevent DVT.

VenaPro

VenaPro

VenaPro is a portable compression device designed to prevent post-operative DVT and reduce lymphedema in moderate- to high-risk patients in a home setting.

About DVT Therapy

The best way to prevent a DVT is through ambulation (walking). Prior to surgery, blood is drawn and tested for thickness, clotting factors, etc. A patient has to be within a normal range for their lab values to qualify for surgery. The reason walking is so important for blood clot prevention is because every time you take a step, your calf muscle pushes against a large vein and helps blood move up towards your heart, preventing clotting from occurring. In the event that a patient is unable to walk, devices like the Kinex ThermoComp may be used to stimulate blood flow and mechanically facilitate the benefits of ambulation.

If someone has been diagnosed with a DVT, they need to be therapeutic on a medicine called Heparin (usually a few days after they start taking the medication) before they can resume PT.
DVT Compression therapy products are devices that provide mechanical compression around the calf and/or leg which helps blood flow from the veins in the leg toward the heart.

Patients are screened prior to surgery in order to make sure that they are at low risk for developing a DVT post-surgery. However, after surgery, medications are often used to decrease the risk of DVT, mechanical pumps on the foot and/or calf are used as well to prevent DVT, and encouraging the patient to ambulate as soon as safely possible are all ways to decrease the risk of DVT following surgery.

DVTs may be prevented in immobile patients through medication, as well as through compression pumps like the Kinex ThermoComp.
